Missing Information 2.0

Randy Kart’s work in the Missing Information 2.0  token series explores the presence of images in contemporary society. Kart appropriates figures from popular culture and incorporates them into his hybrid digital paintings. 

Exploring process, form, and presentation, Kart merges mediums to create artworks rooted in a contrasting visual vocabulary. 

“My goal is to take popular generated images from crypto culture, handcraft them, one pixel at a time to remove key elements and stealing their identities. Creating a unique, curated gallery of misfit figures, with no real community or network. Showcasing their simplified, repurposed and flawed identities to the world.”

Kart’s tangible iconography reflects the artist’s sculptural sensibility to undermine his original source material. The resulting works act as a commentary on our collective fixation on status and scarcity.

"In the future, our digital persona is what people will know. We can no longer use traditional forms of wealth and exclusivity to showcase status. Our personal scoreboard will be digital. Trophies of success will be in the form of NFT’s, not ornately framed paintings hanging our home. We will used heavily curated profiles, live in virtual worlds, own digital real estate and take vacations in the metaverse".
